What Is COMPASS?
COMPASS is a placement test designed to measure a student's basic skills is reading, writing and mathematics. COMPASS is administered via computer and takes approximately 1 to 3 hours to complete, although it is self paced.  All new freshman, post-secondary & some transfer students are required to take COMPASS testing.

What if the assessment reveals a need to improve basic skills in some area?
If COMPASS assessment shows a need for specific coursework, students will be required to complete successfully those designated courses. The regional campuses offer several courses designed to improve academic skills. All courses receive a letter grade and are used to compute a student's grade point average. Coursework connections available to students who are in need of academic support include:

  • Introduction to College Writing (ENG 11001)
  • Developmental Mathematics (MATH 10004)
  • Introduction to College Math (MATH 10005)
  • Reading Strategies for College Success (US 10003)
  • Study Strategies for College Success (US 10006)
