Bachelor of General Studies Degree

The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree is a non-major degree, which provides maximum freedom for the student who wishes to take an inter-disciplinary and creative approach in the design of an educational program of study while maintaining a focus on career or educational goals.

Summary of Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) Program

• Minimum of 121 total hours, 42 upper division hours
• Minimum of 2.0 cumulative GPA and 2.0 in major(s)/minor(s)
• Maximum of 12 pass/fail hours
• Residency requirement – First 91 or last 30 hours must be completed at Kent State University
• Writing-intensive requirement
• Participation in outcomes assessment conducted by your major program

Click here for BGS Proposal application deadlines.  Proposed coursework (minimum 30 semester hours), must begin the semester following formal approval of the student’s BGS degree program.
