Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program
The Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program at Kent State University is designed to provide qualified high school juniors and seniors with the opportunity to enhance their high school education with a true college experience. The PSEO program is not intended to replace course work available at the high school, but rather to enhance educational opportunities.
There are two PSEO program options:
· Option A provides college credit only, so the college grades are not averaged into the high school Grade Point Average. The student must pay for tuition and books. (Option A is the only option open to Home-Schooled students and any student attending during the Summer Session.)
· Option B provides both high school and college credit without paying tuition. The student also receives required textbooks free of charge. Under Ohio Senate Bill 140, the local school district rather than the student pays for tuition and books. However, the student must complete the course with a satisfactory grade and return books at the end of the semester. This Option is available for the Fall and Spring semesters only.
Parents and students considering PSEO course work should meet with their high school guidance counselors to learn about the program and their school district's policies as they relate to the following:
- Full-time equivalency with high school and college enrollment.
- Repayment policies in the event of withdrawal.
- How Kent State University grades are recorded on the high school transcript (weighted or not weighted).
- Remaining graduation requirements and determination if college courses will fulfill those requirements.
The PSEO program is available at both the Geauga Campus and Twinsburg Center.
Guidelines for Admission
To be considered for acceptance into Kent State University Geauga's PSEO program, students are required to have:
- A 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average.
- Demonstrated mastery of introductory college preparatory core curriculum.
- COMPASS test scores above the developmental coursework level. (Students can review COMPASS Sample Questions prior to taking the assessment.)
- A "B" average in a similar high school course prior to enrolling in a college course in the same subject area, as required by the State of Ohio.
Application RequirementsStudents must submit the following prior to the deadlines (see below) for each term:
- PSEO Application for Admission
- Counselor/Principal Recommendation Form
- Two (2) Teacher Recommendation Forms
- Official High School Transcript
Application Deadlines
May 1 for Fall Semester
November 1 for Spring Semester
