Student Accessibility Services
The Office of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) provides assistance to students with varying degrees and types of disabilities in order to maximize educational opportunity and academic potential. Types of disabilities of students who receive services through Student Accessibility Services include but are not limited to:
The office serves students with:
- mobility impairments
- visual impairments
- hearing impairments
- speech impairments
- specific learning disabilities
- attention deficit disorder
- chronic health disorders
- psychological disabilities
- temporary disabilities
Services Offered
- priority registration for classes
- reader/writer referral
- note-taker referral and coordinationassistive equipment
- liaison with state and vocational rehabilitation facilities
- test proctoring can include additional time for test taking as well as a quiet environment outside of the classroom
- consultation regarding issues with disability for faculty, staff and students as well as an informational resource
- TTY/TDD and video phone capability
Students seeking services must provide recent documentation of their specific disability.
Although a student may be eligible for services, specific accommodations are not extended by Student Accessibility Services unless they are requested. A student has the right to choose to use only a few of the accommodations available or to completely refuse special assistance.
