What is M.A.C.? M.A.C. is short for Motivational Academic Conditioning. M.A.C. is a semester-long program that provides college readiness and successful strategy tools for inside/outside of the classroom.
M.A.C. is geared for freshman and transfer students as well as for returning students who may think that they would benefit in receiving additional academic support throughout their first college semester.
Participants will hear important messages from renowned guest speakers and University staff on topics that includes facilitating adjustment to university life, fostering an understanding of university support services, and getting network support from committed staff, faculty, administrators and peer mentors that will guide you to obtaining a college degree. Among some of the topics include: staying motivated, procrastination, time management, technology comfort, personal life skills/responsibilities, peer pressure, self-advocacy, test anxiety, plus much more!
Participants will also be paired with an upper-level student currently successful in college who will serve as a peer mentor. This mentoring partnership will allow the student to learn about the KSU-Geauga & RAC community and how to adjust to the rigors of college and feel comfortable in dealing with an independent schedule and lifestyle.
The M.A.C. program is slated to kick-off on Wednesday, August 15th at the Geauga Campus in Burton from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, August 18th at the Regional Academic Center from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (for those who cannot make it to the August 15th Kick-off session). Students who commit to this semester long program will attend a M.A.C. meeting once a month and meet with your peer mentor once a month as well. At the end of the semester, M.A.C. will culminate with an end-of-the-semester celebration where you could be eligible to receive prizes for sustaining your commitment to academic success.
