Kent State Geauga Celebrates 50th Anniversary, Hosts Musical Festival With the Cleveland Pops OrchestraPosted Apr. 7, 2014
High school students invited to audition for a chance to perform with the orchestra
In celebration of Kent State University at Geauga’s 50th anniversary, the campus is planning a festival of music on Saturday, July 19, showcasing talented Geauga County musicians with a special performance by the acclaimed Cleveland Pops Orchestra with Carl Topilow as conductor. The event will be free and open to the public.
As part of this effort, Kent State Geauga collaborated with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra to incorporate greater community engagement. Area high school students that play an instrument are invited to submit a video audition playing a selection of musical scales along with a song of their choice. Video auditions will be accepted through Friday, April 18, at 5 p.m.
“This is an exceptional opportunity for students to play with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra for a special evening of musical enjoyment for Geauga County,” says David Mohan, dean and chief administrative officer of Kent State Geauga. “The campus is proud to host this event and to extend this invitation to high school students for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“This will be an event like no other in the county,” Mohan continues. “It’s a musical celebration meant to connect the community to the campus while showcasing vibrant area talent.”
