ABOUT COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES

Kent State University at Geauga invites all its degree candidates to participate in the annual graduation ceremonies. Associate (non-ADN) and Baccalaureate Degree students can choose to participate in the Geauga ceremony held on the Friday night of finals.Baccalaureate students may also choose to attend the Kent Campus ceremony instead. The Geauga Campus will host a separate Commencement Ceremony for the Associate of Nursing Program (ADN) in the morning of the following day.

In order for your Commencement Ceremony to be of the highest quality, we ask that you read the information found below; and then act, it is very important!

Name                          Your name will appear on your diploma as listed on your FLASHLINE account.If it is incorrect, please notify Registrars Office at (330) 672-3131

Address                      Your diploma will be sent to the permanent address listed on your FLASHLINE web portal account approximately six to eight weeks after the ceremony.If you want to change your mailing address, please do so by updating your FLASHLINE account. Please contact Dave Chappell (440) 834-3730 at the Geauga Campus if questions arise.

Graduation Status

Associate Degree candidates having questions about their graduation status should please contact the Geauga Campus Registrar, Mr. Tom Hoiles, at (440) 834-3734. Baccalaureate Degree candidates should contact the Kent Campus College where their program of study (major) is offered: e.g. Psychology is a major offered by the College of Arts & Sciences.

University Exit Loan Counseling

Students with federal subsidized student loans or a Perkins Loan must meet with Geauga Campus FA Advisor, Donna Holcomb (440) 834-3737, or a representative of the Kent Campus Financial Aid Office for exit loan counseling.  For more information on university exit loan counseling, please go to: http://www.sfa.kent.edu/ExitLoanCounseling.asp or: http://www.dlssonline.com. 

Caps and Gowns

Regalia may be purchased through the Follett University Bookstore at the Kent Campus or by faxed order.  A regalia order form is included with this letter.  In addition, two opportunities to purchase regalia (caps and gowns) will be offered at the Geauga Campus in Burton on April 21, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and in Twinsburg on April 23, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Associate and Bachelor degree regalia will cost $40.00 ($42.70 w/ tax). < For additional information and hours of bookstore operation, please call, Kent Campus University Bookstore, (330) 672-2762.

Honor Cords

Honor cords are for those  The Kent Campus will send the cords to the Geauga Campus for students who participate at the Geauga Campus ceremony if the Kent Campus is notified by the student ahead of time.

            3.30 cum laude ...............................blue cords
            3.60 magna cum laude...................gold cords
            3.80 summa cum laude...................blue and gold cords

Lapel ribbons, for those graduating with an Associate Degree, are distributed the night of graduation.

Graduation Day at Geauga

You should arrive no later than 5:30 PM on THE DESIGNATED DATE. The "green room" is in Classroom 105 (Nursing classroom). The Processional (formal start of the event) begins at 6:30 p.m. (May 14) or 10:00 a.m. (May 15).

RSVP & Audience Tickets

You may RSVP for the annual Commencement on a protected portion of the Kent State University website. The link is:http://newmedia.kent.edu/commencement/Geauga/. To log-in, please have your FLASHLINE user ID and password available.

The information requested will help the Geauga Campus Commencement Committee plan for the ceremony. A ticket system will be used for this year's ceremony. Each graduation candidate will receive four tickets for family and friends at commencement rehearsal.

Additional tickets for the main seating area may be available after the RSVP deadline DATE upon written request. Please contact Dave Chappell at (440) 834-3730 for ticket related questions or alternative ticket pick-up arrangements.

What to wear

Men usually wear dark slacks or suits or jackets with ties, dark shoes, and socks. Women often wear dark-colored attire and dark comfortable heels.

Graduation Reception

A brief graduation reception will follow the Commencement Ceremonies. Family and friends are invited.  The general reception will be held in our Student Lounge and patio area. The Center Lounge will also be used if the weather is rainy and/or cold.

Photographs

Photographs will be taken after the ceremony on the stage with Dean Mohan. Please return to the stage after the recessional. You will receive a free 4x6 photograph and have the opportunity to buy more copies from John's Photography.

Diplomas

Diplomas will be mailed from the Office of University Registrar to your permanent address approximately six to eight weeks following the ceremony. Please use the FLASLINE web portal to update your permanent address. Questions should be directed to the University Registrars Office (330) 672-3131.
